My father served in the Canal Zone as an MP during WWII his best man was in the 1st ID and I was at my dads house and his friend stopped over I had my jeep there and Jim and I started talking. I asked a lot of questions about how and what they did. The conversation got around to equipment and I asked about combat suspenders? Jim stated that they had problems finding them early in the war. That they made a GI field set by cutting off the pack flaps and sides on a 1928 pack and using these suspenders. Jim stated that they worked better than the issued ones. I tried it and they do work better they are wide at the shoulders and stay up on the shoulder.I have asked a couple of other vets about this one was a BAR man and he did the same thing. Check out the photo this is a guy from my unit. i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/Dave1928a1/DCP_1197-1.jpgDave
